The Blue Hope Hard Hat Initiative is a Buffalo area effort targeting the real estate development and construction industry promoting awareness for colorectal health and promote screening rates of 80% by 2018.
During the month of March, participants will wear their branded Blue Hope Hard Hats on jobsites around Buffalo and make use of new toolbox talks covering colorectal health and screening at jobsite meetings. The Hard Hats will feature the Blue Hope Star and the hashtag #protectyourass. We hope to spark conversation and levity around a serious topic to reduce the stigma and encourage more people to get tested. Participating companies will be provided with the 80% by 2018 pledge and resources to promote cancer screen friendly workplace policies.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in men and women in the United States. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States yet, it is one of the most preventable with proper screening. Only 65% of Americans 50-75 are up to date with screening. Regular screening can reduce the number of people who die from this disease by 30%.
